Meet Google Future Proof Project Ara Phones

Meet Google Future Proof Project Ara Phones:

BARCELONA: At the ongoing Mobile World Congress, major brands like Samsung, Microsoft, Sony, Lenovo and many others unveiled their new products, featuring upgrades in the hardware and the software. These new smartphones and tablets will make the flagship phones you bought last year look like old hat.

However, Miami, US-based company Yezz wants to change this. It is among the few companies that Google is working with to produce 'future-proof' smartphones as part of its Project Ara initiative.

Yezz, which already sells low-cost unlocked smartphones in Middle East and Africa, said that Google wanted to work with smaller firms for the pilot launch of Project Ara, instead of major brands like Samsung, HTC or Motorola.

Project Ara phones consist of two elements: the endoskeleton and the modules. An endoskeleton can hold together up to 11 modules. Including the screen, processor, camera etc. Yezz is using Project Ara to build modules that can even turn smartphones to candy dispensers.

While Project Ara gives users the power to build their own smartphones, its bigger benefit is that it allows them to upgrade the smartphone without replacing it. For example, a user can replace the 8MP camera module with a 16MP module to upgrade the imaging capabilities, while retaining the rest of the smartphone.
Yezz says that though such a project carries its own risks, it also provides the company an opportunity to be part of changing the smartphone landscape drastically.
